Goa: 4-day "City Experiences" Itinerary (June 2023)

  1. Day 1: Fontainhas
    20 minutes (6 miles) from Goa International Airport

    Located in Panaji, Fontainhas is a picturesque Latin Quarter. It is a maze of narrow lanes lined with old houses painted in vivid colours. Explore its vintage charm by walking through the lanes, admiring the colourful houses and visiting its heritage buildings, art galleries, and old taverns. Check out the centuries-old Maruti temple and the Chapel of St. Sebastian. Take a break at Panaji's infamous Café Tato for some Goan snacks. Don't forget to snap some Instagram-worthy shots!

  2. Day 2: Old Goa
    35 minutes (10 miles) from Fontainhas

    Old Goa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was once the capital of Portuguese India. Today, the area is home to some of Goa's most magnificent churches, chapels and cathedrals. Marvel at the imposing Se Cathedral, the Basilica of Bom Jesus, and the Church of St. Francis of Assisi, which houses an ancient Golden Bell. Satisfy your hunger at local restaurant Viva Panjim, known for its traditional Goan cuisine.

  3. Day 3: Mapusa Market
    25 minutes (8 miles) from Old Goa

    Experience a slice of local life by visiting Mapusa Market. With vendors selling everything imaginable, it offers a sophisticated pell-mell of colours and scents. The market sells Indian and Western clothing, Goan cuisine, souvenirs, and more. Savour some spicy local street food from popular vendors like Vinayak Dosas or Snow-Cone Goa. Also, you can visit the nearby St. Jerome Church, which has impressive architecture and interior decoration.

  4. Day 4: Fort Aguada
    20 minutes (5 miles) from Mapusa Market

    End your Goan adventure on a high note by exploring Fort Aguada. Built by the Portuguese in the 17th century to ward off Dutch and Maratha invaders, the fort offers breathtaking views of the Arabian Sea. Visit the lighthouse and a statue of the alphabets "H.O." that once marked Portugal's territory. Get your taste buds a treat with Goan bakery items from Baba’s Wood Café near Aguada Fort.

Useful Tips

If you have more time, rent a bike or scooter and travel further to explore Goa. Visit the famous beaches such as Baga, Calangute, or Anjuna. Deltin Royale Casino, at Panjim is one of the largest casinos in Goa. You can try your hand at many gambling games. Fort Chapora (Vagator) is another fort in Goa from where you can get a mesmerizing panoramic view of the Arabian Sea. If you have less time, skip either Mapusa Market or Fort Aguada as they require more travel time. Keep plenty of bottled water with you while travelling and stay hydrated. Goa can be humid during June, so wear lightweight and comfortable clothing.
