The Sri Aurobindo Ashram was founded by Sri Aurobindo Ghose and his spiritual collaborator, known as “The Mother,” in 1926. Visitors can learn about the philosophy behind the Ashram and its mission of human unity. The small Museum within the Ashram contains photographs and archives that detail Aurobindo's life and mission.
Auroville is an experimental township dedicated to human unity, founded by “The Mother” of the Sri Aurobindo Ashram. The highlight of Auroville is the Matri Mandir, a place for individual silent concentration. Visitors can also explore the Auroville Visitor Centre, which has a small museum, exhibits, and handicrafts for purchase.
Paradise Beach is a beautiful and secluded beach, perfect for a relaxing day. Take advantage of the calm waters by swimming or kayaking, and enjoy lunch at one of the several seafood shacks along the beach.
The Pondicherry Botanical Garden is home to a variety of plants, including medicinal and ornamental species. The garden is peaceful and offers a great opportunity to unwind and explore nature. After this, walk along the Seaside Promenade and experience the beautiful sea breeze and colorful French architecture.
The Arulmigu Manakula Vinayagar Temple is dedicated to Lord Ganesha and is known for its elephant blessings. Offerings can be made and the blessings can be received for good fortune. Lastly, end the trip at Serenity Beach for yet another breathtaking sunset and a dip in the cool waves of Bay of Bengal.
For those with more time to spare, take a day trip to the iconic Gingee Fort, situated 60 km away from Pondicherry. For those with less time, we recommend skipping the Pondicherry Botanical Garden.
