Kuari Pass Trek is a high altitude trek (12,764 ft) located in the Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve. The trek offers stunning views of pristine oak and deodar forests, streams, and waterfalls en route to the pass. The trek is moderately difficult and takes about 6-7 hours to complete. It is recommended to start the trek early in the morning at around 6 AM to avoid the sun's heat. The trek is more beautiful in May as there is a lot of snow in the winter season, and it melts during this time. Trek costs depend on the package one chooses.
The Joshimath Temple is one of the most ancient and revered temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temple is nested amid mountains and forests and is open from 6 AM to 12 PM and 3 PM to 8 PM. Surrounded by fir trees and mountains, it offers a peaceful and divine atmosphere to visitors. The temple is located in the midst of the Joshimath town, which also has good eatery options for visitors.
If you have more time, you can add activities such as camping, skiing, and snowboarding in Auli. If you have less time, you can skip the Kuari Pass trek and opt for a visit to the Nanda Devi National Park or Gorson Lake Trek. Do note that May is peak season, and it is advisable to book the activities in advance. Carry warm clothes, sunscreen, and proper gear for the trek. Remember to carry cash as there are limited ATMs in the area.
