Chikaldara Family Friendly Itinerary - July 2023

  1. Day 1: Muktagiri Jain Temple
    10 minutes (3.2 miles) from Chikaldara Main Market

    Muktagiri is a perfect place to start your family-friendly trip to Chikaldara. Located on a hilltop, it gives you a panoramic view of the nearby villages. It's a small temple complex with several Jain temples. Here, you can spend your time in peace and tranquillity. The temple complex has some seating areas where you can take a quick break from the hot sun. If you're lucky, you might even spot some wildlife, especially peacocks.

  2. Day 2: Melghat Tiger Reserve
    1 hour 30 minutes (55.4 miles) from Muktagiri Jain Temple

    Visiting Melghat Tiger Reserve is a must-do activity in Chikaldara. Located on the southern slopes of the Satpura Range, Melghat is home to tigers, leopards, sloth bears, sambar deer, chital and many more species. If you're into wildlife, you'll love the safari tour through the jungle. It's best to book in advance to ensure availability. Keep in mind that the reserve remains closed during the monsoon.

  3. Day 3: Gawilgadh Fort
    1 hour 10 minutes (45.6 miles) from Melghat Tiger Reserve

    End your Chikaldara trip with a visit to Gawilgadh Fort. Built in the 12th century, this hill fort offers you breathtaking views of the entire region. You'll be able to see the confluence of the Tapti and Gawilgadh rivers from atop the fort. The fort also has several cannons, some of which have inscriptions in Persian. The trek to the top of the fort can be a bit challenging, so make sure to wear comfortable shoes.

If you have more time, you can also visit the nearby Narnala Fort, Tribal Cultural Museum or Amner Fort. If you have less time, you can skip the Muktagiri Jain Temple.
