The Edakkal Caves are a natural wonder that attract tourists from all over the world. These caves are located on Ambukutty Mala, a mountain peak at an altitude of 1200 meters above sea level. The caves are famous for ancient inscriptions, dating back to 6000 BC. You will have to trek up to the caves, which takes about an hour. The views from the top make the trek worth it.
The Chembra Peak is located near Meppadi town and is the highest peak in Wayanad. It’s a 4-hour trek from the base to the summit, which makes it a perfect adventure spot. As you hike up, the views of the valley below and the Manjalvayal and Karapuzha dams are breathtaking. At the top, you can see the heart-shaped Hridaya Saras, a lake that never dries up.
Soochipara Falls, also known as Sentinel Rock Waterfalls, is a three-tier waterfall that falls from a height of 200 meters. The waterfall is surrounded by lush green forests and is a popular picnic spot. You can take a dip in the natural pool at the base of the falls, which is a great way to cool down after a long day of hiking. If you're feeling adventurous, you can try rock climbing and rappelling in the area nearby.
Wayanad is a great place to visit all year round, but the best time to visit is between October to May when the weather is pleasant. If you have an extra day, you can add a visit to the Banasura Sagar Dam or the Thirunelli Temple. If you have less time, you can skip the Edakkal Caves. Wear comfortable shoes for trekking, carry sunscreen and insect repellent, and stay hydrated.
