Honeymoon Itinerary for Wayanad - June 2023

  1. Day 1: Chembra Peak
    40 minutes (12.2km) from Kalpetta

    Start your honeymoon adventure by hiking to the Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanad. The heart-shaped lake on top of the peak is a unique spot for lovers. The trek takes around four hours, so start early in the morning to avoid harsh sunlight. You will witness tea, coffee, and cardamom plantations on the way up. It is crucial to note that the lake is closed from February to April. After the trek, relax at the nearby Soochipara Waterfalls, surrounded by evergreen forests.

  2. Day 2: Banasura Sagar Dam and Meenmutty Falls
    35 minutes (19km) from Chembra Peak

    Enjoy the second day by visiting or boating at Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earth dam in India and the second-largest in Asia. The breathtaking views of Banasura Lake and the Banasura Hills will leave you in awe. After that, head to Meenmutty Falls, a three-tiered fall with mesmerizing garlands of greens, greys, and browns. Take a dip in the pool to freshen up and relax. It is closed on Wednesdays and may be off-limits during the monsoon season.

  3. Day 3: Edakkal Caves and Pookode Lake
    1 hour and 10 minutes (28km) from Meenmutty Falls

    On the last day, visit the Edakkal Caves, known for its unique Stone Age carvings and etchings. The hike to the caves takes around an hour, and exploring the caves usually takes another two hours, so plan your time accordingly. After that, relax at Pookode Lake, a natural freshwater lake surrounded by hills and forests. You can enjoy boating and feeding the fish here. It is closed on Mondays and is only open from 9 am to 5 pm.

If you want to add another element of adventure, you can try ziplining at the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary, located around an hour away from Kalpetta. You can also visit the Thirunelli Temple, the only temple in the world where you can find the Lord Vishnu in the form of Chaturbhuja, which means the four-handed god. If you have less time, you can plan to visit only one or two locations per day. For more extended trips, you can visit other famous places in Wayanad, including Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary, and Kuruva Island.
