Bear Shola Falls is a serene cascade amidst lush greenery that has water almost all year round. According to the legend, the bears of the nearby forest used to drink from this waterfall. The spot is ideal for swimming, playing in water or taking some perfect picture for Instagram.
Vattakanal, known as the "Little Israel of India," is a quaint village that has stunning views of the valley. It is popular among the tourists for its organic food and cafes serving authentic Israeli cuisine. Try the pizza at Altaf’s Cafe and the Buddha Bowl at Cloud Street Cafe. Shrooms Cafe is also famous for its grilled sandwiches and mediterranean dishes. You can also try some adventure activities such as trekking, camping and hiking with an experienced guide.
If you have more time, you can also visit the Kodaikanal Solar Observatory, Kodaikanal Lake, or the Coaker’s Walk. If you have less time, you can skip Vattakanal or maintain it as a half-day trip. While visiting Bear Shola falls, be aware of the monkeys and stray dogs that can sometimes get aggressive. Carry proper change of clothes, toiletries, and water while visiting these locations. Be mindful of the weather forecast as Kodaikanal may receive occasional rainfall.
