Thangal para, a revered pilgrimage site, is nestled amidst lush green hillocks with breathtaking views, making it an ideal picnic spot. The trek to the shrine is a bit challenging, but the verdant forests on your way will mesmerize you. The site is open from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm and is closed on Mondays. You can spend about 3 hours exploring the place and enjoying the scenic beauty. Do not forget to carry snacks and water as there are no restaurants or shops in the vicinity.
Amruthamedu viewpoint is a serene place to witness the majestic sunrise over the mountains. It is best to start early, around 4:00 am. You have to trek for about 2 km to reach the top, which can take 45 minutes to an hour. Once you reach the viewpoint, you can relish the scenic beauty and fresh air, and take some amazing photos. The place is open from 6:00 am to 7:00 pm, and there is no entry fee.
Vagamon pine forest is a must-visit for nature lovers, especially families with kids. You can take a stroll or go for a trek amidst the tall pine trees and soak in the refreshing aroma of eucalyptus and pine. This place also offers adventure activities like zorbing, paintball, and zip-lining. The site is open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and has an entry fee of INR 20 per person. You can spend about 3-4 hours here before heading back home.
If you have more time, you can visit the Vagamon Falls, Murugan Hill, and the Indo-Swiss dairy farm. If you have less time, you can skip Amruthamedu viewpoint, or Vagamon pine forest and add the Kurisumala Ashram or Illikal Peak to your itinerary. Do carry comfortable footwear, warm clothes, sunscreen, and insect repellent.
