Shandur to Hunza 2-Day Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Shandur Polo Ground
    2 hours (41 miles) from Gilgit

    The Shandur Polo Ground is known as the highest polo ground in the world, and it hosts the famous Shandur Polo Festival every year in July. It's a large, flat meadow surrounded by stunning mountain ranges, making it a perfect place for a picnic and a game of polo. You can also go on a short horse riding trek, which will give you a chance to enjoy the beautiful landscape around the polo ground. Keep in mind that Polo Festival timing should be checked beforehand.

  2. Day 1: Attabad Lake
    2.5 hours (94 miles) from Shandur Polo Ground

    The Attabad Lake, also known as Gojal Lake, is a gorgeous turquoise-colored lake formed after a massive landslide in 2010. You can enjoy boating in the lake, and if you're feeling adventurous, you can even try cliff diving. Keep warm clothes with you, as it can be chilly near the lake, especially in the evenings.

  3. Day 2: Baltit Fort
    4 hours (100 miles) from Attabad Lake

    The Baltit Fort, located in Karimabad, is an ancient fort perched on a hill overlooking the Hunza Valley. The fort has been restored and turned into a museum that tells the story of the Hunza Valley's history and culture. You can also enjoy breathtaking views of the valley from the fort's rooftop.

  4. Day 2: Altit Fort
    10 minutes (2 miles) from Baltit Fort

    The Altit Fort is an ancient fort that predates the Baltit Fort and is located in the village of Altit. The fort has been recently restored and turned into a museum, showcasing the history and culture of the Hunza Valley's Altit village. The view from the fort's rooftop is also breathtaking, overlooking the Hunza River and the surrounding mountains.

If you have less time, you can either skip Attabad Lake, or you can combine Baltit Fort and Altit Fort into one visit as they are only a 10-minute drive apart.
