Start your trip with a challenging trek to the Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanad. The trek takes around 3-5 hours and leads to a heart-shaped lake. The view from the peak is mesmerizing and makes the trek worth the effort.
Spend a day exploring the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, home to diverse flora and fauna. You can hire a jeep or book a guided walk to explore the sanctuary. The sanctuary is home to many endangered species like the Indian bison, tiger, and elephant. Do not miss visiting Tholpetty or Muthanga wildlife sanctuary within the bigger sanctuary.
End your trip with a visit to the Edakkal Caves, a prehistoric site with stone carvings believed to date back to 6000 BC. Located on Ambukutty Mala, the caves have a breathtaking view of the surrounding landscape. Be prepared to climb a steep hill to reach this site.
If you have more time, consider adding a visit to Soochipara Waterfalls or Banasura Sagar Dam. Both are popular tourist spots in Wayanad. If you have less time, you can skip the trek to the Chembra Peak and opt for a shorter hike to the nearby Pakshipathalam bird sanctuary or visit the Pookode Lake instead. Make sure to carry comfortable shoes, sunscreen, and water for all your activities.
