Explore the mystical Edakkal Caves located on top of Ambukutty Mala. These caves hold ancient petroglyphs dating back to the Neolithic era, making them an important historical site. The hike to the caves is an adventure in itself, with stunning views of the surrounding valley. Once inside, marvel at the rock art and try to decipher the symbols.
Cool off at Soochipara Falls, also known as Sentinel Rock Waterfalls. The falls cascade down three tiers and are surrounded by lush greenery. Take a dip in the pool at the bottom of the falls or just relax and enjoy the scenery. If you're feeling adventurous, there is a trek through the forest to the top of the falls, providing a unique perspective.
End your day with a visit to the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary. This protected area is home to a variety of wildlife, including elephants, tigers, leopards, and langurs. Take a jeep safari through the sanctuary and keep your eyes peeled for any sightings. If you're lucky, you might even spot a herd of wild elephants!
Spend your morning at Pookode Lake, a scenic freshwater lake surrounded by forests and hills. Take a boat ride on the lake or go for a peaceful walk around the perimeter. You can also visit the freshwater aquarium nearby to see a variety of fish species found in the lake.
Visit the Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earthen dam in India and second largest in Asia. The dam is located on the Banasura Hills and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and forests. Take a boat ride on the reservoir or go for a hike in the hills.
End your trip with a trek up Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanad. The trek is a bit challenging, but the views from the top are worth it. On a clear day, you can see the entire Wayanad region from the peak. Make sure to obtain a permit from the forest office before starting the trek.
If you have more time, consider visiting the Thirunelli Temple or the Kuruva Islands. If you have less time, you can skip the Banasura Sagar Dam or Pookode Lake. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes for the treks and bring insect repellent for the wildlife sanctuary.
