Start your nature-filled trip by hiking up to Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanad. The trek to the top may be steep, but the view from the summit is worth it. You'll be able to see the heart-shaped Chembra lake surrounded by lush greenery. Make sure to pack food and water for the trek as there are no shops available on the way.
Next, head to the serene Pookode Lake located amidst evergreen forests and wooded hills. Take a pedal boat ride or go for a leisurely walk around the lake and enjoy the natural beauty of the area. You can also spot some freshwater fishes, birds, and even wild animals if you're lucky. The lake also has a small aquarium and a children's park.
Start your second day by exploring the Edakkal Caves, a prehistoric site with ancient rock engravings and paintings. The trek to the caves is a bit challenging, but the scenic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys make it worthwhile. This site gives an insight into the culture and lifestyle of ancient civilizations.
End your trip by visiting the Soochipara Falls, also known as Sentinel Rock Waterfalls. The waterfall cascades down from a height of 200 meters and surrounded by lush green forests. Take a dip in the natural pool below the waterfall or go for a short trek to reach the top of the falls. Make sure to carry extra clothes and towels.
If you have more time, you can visit the Banasura Sagar Dam, a popular tourist spot with a scenic view of the Banasura hills. You can also go for wildlife safaris in the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary or Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary. If you have less time, you can skip Pookode Lake and spend more time exploring the Edakkal Caves or Soochipara Falls.
