Sakleshpura is a quaint town in the Hassan district of Karnataka that is known for its coffee plantations, trekking trails, and natural beauty. Start your day early and head to the Jenkal Gudda Trek where you can hike up to the peak to enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding hills and valleys. After your trek, indulge in a hot cup of coffee at one of the local cafes and then visit the Manjarabad Fort which is believed to have been built by Tipu Sultan. End your day with a visit to the Bisle Viewpoint where you can witness the breathtaking sunset over the Western Ghats.
Belur and Halebidu are two ancient temple towns that are known for their intricate and magnificent Hoysala-style temples. Start your day by visiting the Chennakesava Temple in Belur which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is known for its intricate carvings and sculptures. From there, head to Halebidu to visit the Hoysaleswara Temple which is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is known for its imposing architecture and exquisite carvings. After Halebidu, drive to Shravanabelagola to visit the Bahubali Statue which is one of the tallest monolithic statues in the world. The statue is located on top of a hill and requires a short hike to reach.
If you have more time, consider adding a visit to the Shettihalli Church which is a beautiful abandoned church that gets partially submerged during the monsoon season. For food, try the local delicacy - Neer Dosa which is a rice crepe that is served with coconut chutney. If you have less time, skip the Manjarabad Fort and Bisle Viewpoint on Day 1 and start your journey to Belur and Halebidu early on Day 2. However, we recommend spending at least a day in Sakleshpura to truly appreciate its natural beauty and tranquility.
