Start your first day by visiting the Banasura Sagar Dam, located on the foothills of the Banasura hills. This beautiful dam holds the distinction of being India's largest earth dam. Surrounded by the picturesque Banasura hills, it's a perfect place to unwind and relax. Take a walk on the dam, enjoy a boat ride, or go trekking in the hills. There are several viewpoints around the dam that offer breathtaking views of the Western Ghats.
On your second day, head towards the Edakkal Caves, which are a unique attraction located atop Ambukuthi Hills. These caves are believed to date back to the Neolithic era and are famous for their ancient rock art. To reach the caves, you need to trek through a scenic trail that takes you through coffee plantations and lush green hills. Once you reach the top, you will be rewarded with spectacular views of the surrounding valleys.
On your final day, head towards the Soochipara Waterfalls, also known as Sentinel Rock Waterfalls. This beautiful waterfall is located in the dense forest of the Western Ghats and is a perfect place to unwind and relax. Take a dip in the natural pool at the base of the falls or go trekking in the forest. The waterfall is accessible through a short trek that takes you through a tea estate and dense forest.
If you have more time, you can explore other attractions in Wayanad such as the Pookode Lake, Karapuzha Dam, or the Thirunelli Temple. If you have less time, you can skip the Edakkal Caves and spend more time at Banasura Sagar Dam and Soochipara Waterfalls. Make sure to carry comfortable shoes, sunscreen, and insect repellent as you will be spending a lot of time outdoors.
