Explore the ancient Edakkal Caves formed by heavy boulders resting on a rock ledge. The cave paintings date back to over 6000 BCE and depict human and animal figures, tools, and symbols. You can reach the caves after a 1.5 km trek from the parking lot. The moderate-level trek is through a picturesque landscape of coffee and tea plantations.
Visit the Banasura Sagar Dam, one of the largest earth dams in India, built across the Karamanathodu River. The dam site offers breathtaking views of the surrounding hills, forests, and backwaters. You can take a speed boat ride, go trekking or zip-lining, and enjoy a traditional Malabar meal. Be sure to carry sunscreen and sunglasses as the dam area can get quite hot.
