The heart of Salzburg lies in its Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site with stunning Baroque architecture, quaint cafés, and shops. Visit the Salzburg Cathedral, the St. Peter's Abbey, and the Getreidegasse, one of the oldest shopping streets in Europe.
Take a funicular ride up to the top of Fortress Hohensalzburg, one of the best-preserved medieval castles in Europe. From the fortification walls, enjoy the panoramic views of the city and the surrounding mountains.
Salzburg is best explored on foot, however, depending on your accommodation’s location, a taxi or public transportation might be necessary. A one-way bus or train ticket costs around €2, while a taxi ride can cost between €15 to €30 depending on the distance.
If you have more time, consider taking a day trip to the nearby Lake District, where you can enjoy the beautiful scenery and go hiking or boating. If you have less time, skip the shopping on Getreidegasse and spend more time exploring the Salzburg Cathedral and St. Peter's Abbey.
Salzburg Airport (SZG) is the main airport serving the city. It is located about 4km from the city center and there are several options for transportation, including a shuttle bus, taxis, or public transportation.
