Sri Lanka Family Friendly Itinerary for June 2023

  1. Day 1: Colombo
    30 minutes (19 km) from Bandaranaike International Airport

    Start your trip with a visit to the bustling city of Colombo. Walk around the streets, taking in the colonial architecture and local markets. Check out the Gangaramaya Temple and the National Museum, which has a great collection of Sri Lankan artifacts from ancient times to the modern era. End the day with a visit to the Galle Face Green, a waterfront park where you can catch a beautiful sunset.

  2. Day 2: Sigiriya

    Visit the ancient rock fortress of Sigiriya, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Climb to the top of the rock to see the stunning views and the remains of King Kasyapa's palace. On the way back, stop by the Dambulla Cave Temple, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, which contains beautiful frescoes and statues of Buddha.

  3. Day 3: Kandy

    Head to Kandy, nestled in the hills of Sri Lanka. Visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic, where a tooth of Buddha is said to be enshrined. Take a stroll around the Kandy Lake, and visit the nearby Botanical Gardens, which is home to a variety of tropical flora. In the evening, catch a traditional Kandyan dance performance.

  4. Day 4: Nuwara Eliya
    2 hours 30 minutes (78 km) from Kandy

    Travel to Nuwara Eliya, also known as Little England, located in the heart of Sri Lanka's tea country. Take a scenic train ride from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya, passing through lush green hills and tea plantations. Take a tour of a tea factory and learn about the process of tea-making. Visit the beautiful Hakgala Botanical Gardens, which boasts of a wide variety of flora including roses, orchids, and cacti.

  5. Day 5: Yala National Park
    5 hours (240 km) from Nuwara Eliya

    Enjoy a safari at the Yala National Park, home to a wide variety of wildlife, including elephants, leopards, and crocodiles. The park also hosts a large number of bird species, making it a birdwatcher's paradise. After the safari, relax on the nearby beach at Unawatuna and indulge in some Sri Lankan cuisine.

    Visit the historic Dutch Fort in Galle, another UNESCO World Heritage Site.
