Nature-Lover's 3-Day Itinerary in Cochin

  1. Day 1: Mangalavanam Bird Sanctuary

    Start your trip by visiting the Mangalavanam Bird Sanctuary, home to over 194 species of birds and a variety of mangrove plants. You may spot migratory birds such as the Common Teal, Wood Sandpiper and Garganey. A well-maintained walking trail offers scenic views of the sanctuary. Beware of the monkeys and carry a mosquito repellent.

  2. Day 2: Athirappilly Waterfalls
    1 hour 45 minutes (73 km) from Mangalavanam Bird Sanctuary

    Drive to Athirappilly Waterfalls, a majestic waterfall surrounded by lush green forests. The waterfall is located on the Chalakudy River and is about 80 feet high. You can take a dip in the natural pool at the bottom of the waterfall or go for a short trek through the forest. Monsoon season, from June to September makes the waterfall more beautiful.

  3. Day 3: Thattekad Bird Sanctuary
    1 hour 20 minutes (45 km) from Athirappilly Waterfalls

    Spend your last day at the Thattekad Bird Sanctuary. The sanctuary is located on the banks of the Periyar River and is home to over 500 species of birds including the Indian pitta, grey junglefowl and Malabar hornbill. You can take a guided boat tour on the river to spot the birds or go for a short trek through the forest. Beware of leeches during the monsoon season.
