As the island of Socotra is vast, renting a car or hiring a private driver/guide is the most practical mode of transport here. Taxis can be found at the airport, but they're not recommended because of their poor air-conditioning and driving quality. Car rentals can range from €30 to €50 per day with an additional €5 per day for insurance coverage. Also, always carry a spare tire, as it's not easy to find roadside support here.
The estimated cost for transportation throughout the trip is: €500
If you have more time, consider adding a day trip to the Skand dunes, Noged Beach, and Qalansiyah Beach; all are known for their oasis-like beauty. Less time? Cut down the number of days you spend on least fascinating places. Some shops and restaurants (outside the hotels) in Socotra only accept cash, so always carry enough local currency with you. Do not forget to carry mosquito repellent, sunscreen and adequate clothes for hiking and trekking.
Socotra Airport (SCT) is the primary airport located at a distance of 5 km southeast from the main city center, Hadibo. The airport connects Socotra to mainland Yemen via daily flights, which makes it an easy point of entry and exit for the island.
