A 3-Day Itinerary for Wayanad in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Edakkal Caves
    1 hour 24 minutes (36.7 km) from Calicut International Airport

    Start your trip with a visit to the Edakkal Caves, a famous archaeological site in Wayanad. The caves are believed to have been formed around 5000 years ago and contain ancient rock engravings and pictorial writings. A short trek through the Ambukuthi Hills will lead you to the caves. The stunning views of the surrounding countryside from the top make the trek worth it.

  2. Day 2: Pookode Lake & Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary

    On day 2, head over to Pookode Lake, one of the most popular attractions in Wayanad. This natural freshwater lake is surrounded by lush green forests and offers a serene and peaceful atmosphere. Take a boat ride on the lake or go for a walk around the lake. A short drive from the lake will take you to the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, which is home to a variety of exotic wildlife such as elephants, tigers, leopards, and deer. Take a safari through the sanctuary to spot these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat.

  3. Day 3: Banasura Sagar Dam & Chembra Peak
    1 hour 11 minutes (27.5 km) from Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary

    On your last day, visit the Banasura Sagar Dam, which is the largest earth dam in India. The dam is surrounded by beautiful mountains and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. You can take a boat ride on the reservoir and enjoy the stunning views. Next, head to Chembra Peak, which is the highest peak in Wayanad. The trek to the peak is challenging, but the views from the top are absolutely worth it. You can see the entire Wayanad district from the top of the peak.
