If you prefer to explore the town on foot, bring comfortable shoes as Ketchikan's terrain can be steep in places. Alternatively, you can rent a car, take a taxi, or ride a bike. Taxes are about $15-20, and car rentals range from $40-60. Keep in mind that the island town has no road access to the mainland, so a ferry or a flight is necessary to reach Ketchikan.
If you have extra time, consider taking a fishing or whale watching tour, hiking the Rainbird Trail, or renting a kayak to paddle around the coastline. With less time, you can skip the Southeast Alaska Discovery Center or the Cape Fox Lodge Show. Make sure to dress appropriately for the weather and bring a rain jacket, as Ketchikan gets about 13 feet of annual rainfall.
