Hemkund Sahib, situated at an altitude of 4,632 metres above sea level, is a popular pilgrimage site for Sikhs. The journey to Hemkund Sahib is a trek of about 6 km from Ghangaria, which is the nearest village. You can hire a pony or a palanquin to reach the top or take a leisurely trek through the lush green landscape. The Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara, surrounded by seven snow-capped mountains, is a marvel to behold. The main attraction of the Gurudwara is the Hemkund Sarovar, a crystal clear glacial lake, which is considered to be holy by the Sikhs.
Valley of Flowers National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is famous for its exotic varieties of alpine flowers. The park is open from June to October and offers a mesmerizing view of the Himalayan mountain range. The trek to the park is a bit challenging, but the panoramic view of the Himalayas and the valley is worth the effort. The park is home to a variety of endangered species such as Asiatic black bear, snow leopard, musk deer and blue sheep.
Badrinath is a holy town located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand and is one of the four Char Dham pilgrimage sites. The town is situated on the banks of the Alaknanda River and is surrounded by Nar and Narayan mountain range. The main attraction of Badrinath is the Badrinath Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temple is made of stone and has a vibrant architecture. Tapt Kund, a natural hot water spring, is located near the temple and is believed to have medicinal properties.
