Exploring Wayanad in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Chembra Peak
    30 minutes (10 miles) from Kalpetta

    Start your trip to Wayanad with a visit to the Chembra Peak. This is the highest peak in Wayanad and offers a breathtaking view of the entire district. The trek to the top of the peak is a moderate one and takes around 3-4 hours. You can witness a heart-shaped lake on the top of the peak which is believed to have never dried up. The trek is open between 7 AM to 2 PM and requires a permit from the forest department. This can be arranged in advance or on the spot.

  2. Day 2: Edakkal Caves
    1 hour (18 miles) from Chembra Peak

    Next, head towards the Edakkal Caves, which is a set of natural caves located 1200 meters above sea level. These caves are believed to have been formed around 8000 years ago and contain ancient inscriptions. The trek to the caves takes around 45 minutes and is moderately difficult. The cave is open from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM, and the last entry is allowed at 3:30 PM.

  3. Day 3: Pookode Lake
    1 hour 20 minutes (24 miles) from Edakkal Caves

    End your trip to Wayanad with a visit to the Pookode Lake, which is a freshwater lake surrounded by lush greenery. You can take a boat ride and enjoy the scenic beauty of the place. The lake is surrounded by a forest that is home to a variety of birds and animals. The lake is open from 9 AM to 5 PM.
