2-Day Itinerary for Thiruvananthapuram in May 2023

  1. Day 1: Napier Museum and Art Gallery
    15 minutes (3.5 km) from Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station

    The Napier Museum and Art Gallery is a perfect place for art lovers, history buffs and anybody who admires ancient and contemporary art. The museum is 140 years old and exhibits rare collections of Indian bronze, metal sculptures, ancient ornaments, ivory carvings and musical instruments. It also has a natural history section with a dinosaur model and a wide range of stuffed animals. The art gallery showcases paintings of Raja Ravi Varma and Nicholas Roerich, among others.

  2. Day 1: Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple
    10 minutes (3.1 km) from Napier Museum and Art Gallery

    The Sri Padmanabhaswamy temple is a must-visit for anyone visiting Thiruvananthapuram. It is one of the 108 Divya Desams (holy abodes of Lord Vishnu) and is known for its magnificent Dravidian architecture. The temple has a strict dress code and visitors are required to wear traditional Indian attire or dhoti which can be rented near the entrance. The temple is also known for its underground vaults which contain priceless treasures. Photography is not allowed inside the temple.

  3. Day 2: Kovalam Beach
    30 minutes (15 km) from Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station

    Kovalam Beach is one of the most popular beaches in Kerala and is known for its calm and shallow waters. The beach is surrounded by coconut trees and has a beautiful shoreline. It is perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and enjoying the sunset. There are many restaurants and cafes around the beach where you can enjoy fresh seafood and traditional Kerala cuisine.

  4. Day 2: Vizhinjam Lighthouse
    10 minutes (4.6 km) from Kovalam Beach

    The Vizhinjam Lighthouse is located in the fishing village of Vizhinjam and is one of the oldest lighthouses in the state. The lighthouse offers a panoramic view of the Arabian Sea and the surrounding areas. Visitors can climb up the spiral staircase to the top of the lighthouse for a breathtaking view. The lighthouse is open from 3 pm to 5 pm on all days except Mondays.
