Immerse in the Culture of Ujjain - 3 Day Itinerary for June 2023

  1. Day 1: Mahakaleshwar Temple
10 minutes (1.8 km) from Ujjain Junction Railway Station

Start your cultural immersion in Ujjain with a visit to the Mahakaleshwar Temple, one of the most important Shiva temples in India. The temple is believed to be one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, and it attracts devotees from across the country. June is an auspicious month to visit as it marks the beginning of the monsoon season and the temple holds daily Bhasma Aarti in the evening which is a must-see. Be prepared for long queues during peak hours, so plan accordingly.

  2. Day 2: Kal Bhairav Temple & Kumbh Mela Site
15 minutes (3 km) from Mahakaleshwar Temple

Start your day by offering prayers to Lord Bhairav at the Kal Bhairav Temple, which is dedicated to one of the fiercest forms of Lord Shiva. The temple is believed to be one of the 64 Bhairav temples in India and has a unique architecture. Afterward, head to the Kumbh Mela site, which is the largest spiritual gathering in the world, and experience the grandeur of this festival. Though the Kumbh Mela happens every 12 years, the site is open for visitors throughout the year.

  3. Day 3: Vedha Shala Observatory & Sandipani Ashram
20 minutes (5 km) from Kal Bhairav Temple

On the last day of your cultural immersion in Ujjain, visit the Vedha Shala Observatory, which is the fifth-oldest observatory in the world. The observatory was constructed in the 17th century by Maharaja Jai Singh II and has several ancient astronomical instruments.
