4-Day Tanjore, Mannarkudi, Velankanni, and Kumbakonam Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Tanjore
    45 minutes (30 km) from Trichy Airport

    Start your trip in the ancient city of Tanjore, also known as Thanjavur, by visiting the Brihadeeswara Temple. This UNESCO World Heritage Site was built in the 11th century and is a magnificent example of Dravidian architecture. You can spend a few hours exploring the temple complex and admiring the intricate carvings and sculptures. After this, head to the Tanjore Palace and Art Gallery to learn about the history of the Chola dynasty and see some beautiful artifacts and paintings. End your day by taking a stroll around the beautiful Sivaganga Park.

  2. Day 2: Mannarkudi and Velankanni
    1 hour 20 minutes (72 km) from Tanjore

    Start your day by visiting the Rajagopalaswamy Temple in Mannarkudi. This ancient temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and has some beautiful carvings and sculptures. After this, head to the coastal town of Velankanni, which is famous for the Basilica of Our Lady of Good Health. This is a popular pilgrimage site and attracts thousands of devotees every year. Spend some time exploring the church and the surrounding area, which has some beautiful beaches and parks.

  3. Day 3: Kumbakonam
    1 hour 30 minutes (91 km) from Velankanni

    Start your day by visiting the Airavateswara Temple in Darasuram, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is known for its beautiful sculptures and carvings. After this, head to Kumbakonam, which is known as the "temple town" of Tamil Nadu. Here, you can visit the Adi Kumbeswarar Temple, the Nageshwara Temple, and the Kasi Viswanathar Temple, among others. Take a stroll around the town and explore the local markets and shops, which sell traditional handicrafts and textiles.

  4. Day 4: Kumbakonam
    2 hours (103 km) from Kumbakonam to Trichy Airport

    On your last day, start by visiting the Mahamaham Tank, which is considered to be one of the holiest spots in Kumbakonam. You can take a dip in the tank and participate in the Mahamaham festival, which takes place every 12 years. After this, head to the Sarangapani Temple, which is one of the largest and most beautiful temples in Kumbakonam. End your trip by visiting the Thanjavur Royal Palace and Art Gallery, where you can see some beautiful artifacts and paintings.
