4-Day Family Friendly Itinerary for Srisailam

  1. Day 1: Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple

    The Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga temples of Lord Shiva and is an important pilgrimage site for Hindus. The temple architecture is a blend of Chalukya and Vijayanagara styles and is surrounded by beautiful hills and forests. The temple has several mandapams and shrines dedicated to various deities. The Shiva Linga is believed to be self-manifested and is considered very powerful.

  2. Day 2: Akka Mahadevi Caves
    Located in the Nallamala Forest Range
    1 hour 30 minutes (60.7 km) from Srisailam Dam

    The Akka Mahadevi Caves are named after a famous 12th-century female saint who is said to have meditated in these caves. The hike to the caves is through a beautiful forested area and takes around 45 minutes. The caves are small and can only accommodate a few people at a time. Inside the caves, there are small shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva and a natural spring that is believed to have healing properties.

  3. Day 3: Srisailam Dam
    Located on the River Krishna
    50 minutes (20.7 km) from Akka Mahadevi Caves

    The Srisailam Dam is one of the largest hydroelectric projects in India and provides water and electricity to several states. The view of the reservoir from the dam is breathtaking and there is a garden on top of the dam that is perfect for picnics. There is also a museum that showcases the history and construction of the dam. Boating and fishing are popular activities in the surrounding area.

  4. Day 4: Phaladhara Panchadhara and Patala Ganga
    Located in the Nallamala Forest Range
    1 hour 15 minutes (45.3 km) from Srisailam Dam

    The Phaladhara Panchadhara and Patala Ganga are two waterfalls located in the Nallamala Forest Range. Phaladhara Panchadhara is a series of five small waterfalls that are believed to have medicinal properties. Patala Ganga is a larger waterfall that originates from the Srisailam Dam. The hike to the waterfalls is through a forested area and takes around 45 minutes. The waterfalls are best visited during the monsoon season when the flow is strong.
