The Pamplemousses Botanical Garden is located in the northern part of the island and is home to various plant species, including tall palm trees, water lilies, and giant water lilies. Take a leisurely stroll through the garden and enjoy the lovely scenery.
Located on the southeast coast, the Blue Bay Marine Park is one of the best spots for snorkelling in Mauritius. See 50 species of coral and over 70 species of fish in the shallow waters of the park.
La Vanille Nature Park is home to giant tortoises, crocodiles, monkeys and many other species. It also has a petting zoo, a jungle adventure park for kids and a restaurant on site that serves local dishes. Spend a fun day exploring the park and interacting with the animals.
Public transportation in Mauritius is limited. Taxis are widely available but can be expensive. Consider renting a car to travel around the island. Rentals cost about £35-£50 per day, and petrol is slightly cheaper than in Europe. Driving is on the left side of the road, and visitors must carry their driving permit and passport at all times.
For a longer trip, consider visiting the Black River Gorges National Park, Chamarel Waterfall and Seven Coloured Earth, and the beaches of Flic en Flac and Grand Baie. If you have less time, skip Pamplemousses Botanical Garden and spend more time at the beaches.
Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU) is the main airport in Mauritius. It's located about 30 miles southeast of the capital, Port Louis.
