Located just minutes from the city center, Durres Beach offers a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city. Stroll along the promenade, relax on the beach or indulge in some parasailing or wind surfing.
Durres Amphitheatre is one of the largest and most well-preserved amphitheatres in the Balkans. The vast ruins are impressive, and visitors can climb up to the top for excellent views of the city and surrounding countryside.
Golem Beach is a stunning stretch of coastline just a short drive from Durres. With clear blue waters and golden sands, it's the perfect place to spend the day sunbathing and swimming. There are also several beachside bars and restaurants if you fancy a bite to eat or a refreshing drink.
The best way to get around Durres is by taxi or minibus. Taxis are plentiful and generally inexpensive, with most journeys costing between 300-500 lek. Minibuses are a great way to travel longer distances, with fares starting at around 100 lek. If you're feeling brave, you could also rent a car or scooter, but be aware that driving in Albania can be challenging.
If you have more time, consider taking a day trip to the nearby city of Berat, known as the "City of a Thousand Windows" for its many Ottoman-era houses. If you have less time, you could skip Durres Amphitheatre and spend a second day relaxing on the beach or exploring the city.
Tirana International Airport Nënë Tereza (TIA) is the airport serving Durres. Located 33km from the city centre, it takes approximately 30 minutes by car or taxi to reach the city. The airport offers a range of international and domestic flights, with connections to major cities across Europe and the Middle East.
