2-Day Chennai to Chikmagalur Itinerary in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Halebidu
    4 hours 30 minutes (150.6 miles) from Chennai

    Halebidu, also known as Dwarasamudra, was the capital of the Hoysala Empire. The Hoysaleswara Temple, with its intricate carvings and sculptures, is a must-visit attraction. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is a testament to the architectural excellence of the Hoysalas. Another attraction is the Kedareshwara Temple, which is smaller but equally impressive. Be sure to take a guided tour to learn the history and significance of the temple complex.

  2. Day 2: Coffee Plantations and Mullayanagiri Trek
    1 hour 20 minutes (33.2 miles) from Halebidu

    Chikmagalur is famous for its coffee plantations, and a visit to one of them is a must-do activity. Learn about the history and production process of coffee, and sample some freshly brewed coffee. Afterward, head to Mullayanagiri, the highest peak in Karnataka, for a trek. The trek is challenging but rewarding, with stunning views of the Western Ghats. The trek starts from Sarpadaari and takes about three hours to complete. Be sure to carry enough water and wear comfortable shoes.
