Exploring Wayanadu in 2 Days - June 2023

  1. Day 1: Edakkal Caves
    30 minutes (11.5 miles) from Kalpetta

    Explore the pre-historic Edakkal Caves located in the Ambukuthi hills. The cave paintings here date back to the Neolithic era. You need to climb a moderate slope to reach the entrance of the caves. The trek to the top takes around an hour, but the view from the top is worth it. It is advised to carry some water and snacks as there are no eateries available inside. Photography is allowed but at an additional cost.

  2. Day 1: Soochipara Falls
    1 hour 20 minutes (30.6 miles) from Edakkal Caves

    Visit the picturesque Soochipara Falls, also known as Sentinel Rock Waterfalls, located near Meppadi. The falls cascade down from a height of 200 meters and form a shallow pool at the base where you can take a dip. There are shops selling local handicrafts and snacks nearby. It is advisable to wear comfortable shoes as the trek to the falls can be a little challenging.

  3. Day 2: Banasura Sagar Dam
    1 hour 20 minutes (30.7 miles) from Kalpetta

    Take a trip to the Banasura Sagar Dam, one of the largest earth dams in India, built across the Karamanathodu River. The dam offers a scenic view of the surrounding hills and the reservoir is dotted with tiny islands. You can take a speedboat or rowboat to explore the islands. There is also a trekking trail nearby that takes you to the Banasura Peak.

  4. Day 2: Pookode Lake
    30 minutes (12.7 miles) from Banasura Sagar Dam

    Visit the serene Pookode Lake, nestled amidst lush green forests. The lake is a popular spot for boating and you can rent a pedal boat or a rowboat. There is also a freshwater aquarium, a children's park, and a shopping center near the lake. The journey to the lake is also breathtaking, with winding roads and scenic views.
