Start your day early and head to Kerala Falls, a breathtaking waterfall nestled in the Western Ghats. As you enter the park, you'll be greeted by lush greenery and the sound of water splashing against rocks. Take a dip in the refreshing water or go for a short hike to the top of the falls for a panoramic view. Don't forget your camera as you're sure to capture some stunning shots. There are a few snack stands in the park, but we recommend bringing a packed lunch to enjoy by the water.
After a morning at Kerala Falls, head to Periyar National Park, a protected area in the Western Ghats known for its diverse wildlife, including tigers, elephants, and rare birds. Take a guided boat tour on Periyar Lake to spot animals in their natural habitat or go for a jungle walk with a knowledgeable guide. The park entrance fee includes a 2-hour guided walk, so make sure to take advantage of this opportunity to learn about the park's flora and fauna. There are a few restaurants nearby where you can grab a meal before heading to your accommodation.
On day 2, take a leisurely drive to Marari Beach, a picturesque stretch of sand on the Arabian Sea. Spend the day lounging on the beach, swimming in the sea, or trying your hand at surfing or paddleboarding. There are a few beachside restaurants where you can enjoy fresh seafood and cold drinks. If you're up for a bit of adventure, take a traditional wooden boat ride to explore the nearby backwaters, a network of lagoons and canals that are a hallmark of this region's natural beauty.
If you have more time in the area, we recommend visiting the backwaters of Kumarakom or taking a tea plantation tour in Munnar. Make sure to try the local cuisine, including appam and stew, puttu and kadala, and fish curry. To maximize your fun, consider hiring a local guide who can help you navigate the area and provide insider tips. Finally, don't forget to stay hydrated and wear sunscreen, as the sun can be quite strong in this region.
