2-Day Adventure Itinerary in Wayanad in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Trekking to Chembra Peak
    30 minutes (10 miles) from Kalpetta

    Start your adventure in Wayanad by trekking to Chembra Peak, the highest peak in the district. The trek starts at the foothill of the peak and takes around 3 hours to reach the top. At the top, you’ll find a heart-shaped lake, which is said to have never dried up. The view of the surrounding hills and valleys from the peak is breathtaking. Make sure to carry enough water and snacks as there are no shops on the trekking route. Also, note that prior permission is required from the Meppady forest range office before starting the trek.

  2. Day 1: Bamboo Rafting in Kuruva Island
    1 hour (15 miles) from Chembra Peak

    After a tiring trek, head to Kuruva Island, a protected river delta on the Kabini River. Here, you can enjoy bamboo rafting on the river and spot various species of birds, butterflies and even elephants if you’re lucky. The island also has a few walking trails where you can explore the flora and fauna of the Western Ghats. Make sure to carry insect repellent and wear comfortable shoes.

  3. Day 2: Wildlife Safari at Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary
    1 hour (25 miles) from Kalpetta

    Start your second day in Wayanad by visiting Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary. Here, you can take a jeep safari through the forest and spot various animals like elephants, tigers, leopards, deer, and many more. The sanctuary also has a few walking trails where you can explore the forest on foot. Make sure to carry a camera and binoculars to capture the wildlife sightings.

  4. Day 2: Soochipara Waterfalls
    1 hour (20 miles) from Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary

    End your adventure in Wayanad by visiting Soochipara Waterfalls, a 3-tiered waterfall surrounded by lush green forests. You can take a dip in the pool at the base of the waterfall and enjoy the cool water. The waterfall is also a great spot for picnic and photography. Make sure to carry a change of clothes and towels.

If you have some additional time, you can also consider visiting Edakkal Caves, Banasura Sagar Dam, and Pookode Lake. These places offer great natural beauty and adventure activities like ziplining, kayaking, and boating.
