6-Day Shoestring Budget Itinerary for Auli, Dehradun in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Arrival and City Tour
    30 minutes (12.6 km) from Jolly Grant Airport

    Upon arrival to Dehradun, start your trip by exploring the city with a visit to Sahastradhara, a popular tourist spot known for its therapeutic sulfur waterfalls. Next, head to Robber's Cave, a naturally-formed cave with a stream flowing through it. End the day with a visit to the Clock Tower, a popular landmark in the city center.

  2. Day 2: Trek to Gurson Bugyal
    3 hours (20 km) from Dehradun

    Start your day early and embark on a scenic trek to Gurson Bugyal, a picturesque meadow located at an altitude of 3,056 meters. The trek is not very difficult and offers stunning views of the Himalayas throughout the journey. Once you reach the meadow, spend some time admiring the panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and relax amidst the lush greenery.

  3. Day 3: Auli Sightseeing
    1 hour (15 km) from Gurson Bugyal

    Head to Auli, a popular hill station known for its skiing slopes. Take a cable car ride to Auli and enjoy the breathtaking views of the Himalayas. Once you reach Auli, visit the Auli Artificial Lake, a man-made lake surrounded by lush green forests. Later, visit the Nanda Devi National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its diverse flora and fauna.

  4. Day 4: Joshimath Exploration
    1 hour (20 km) from Auli

    Visit Joshimath, a small town located at an altitude of 1,890 meters, and explore its many temples and ashrams. Visit the Kalpavriksha Temple, a 1200-year-old temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu and the Narsimha Temple, a temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu's half-lion avatar. End the day with a visit to the Shankaracharya Math, an important religious site and center of learning.

  5. Day 5: Badrinath Temple Visit
    1 hour 30 minutes (60 km) from Joshimath

    Visit the Badrinath Temple, one of the four Char Dham pilgrimage sites and an important Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temple is located at an altitude of 3,133 meters and offers stunning views of the surrounding peaks. Explore the temple complex and its many shrines and soak in the spiritual atmosphere of the place.

  6. Day 6: Departure Day
    6 hours (295 km) from Badrinath Temple to Jolly Grant Airport

    Depart from your hotel and head back to Dehradun to catch your flight back home. If time permits, you can stop at Devprayag, the confluence of the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers, on the way back and take in the beautiful views.
