7-Day Family Friendly Itinerary for Chandigarh Gangtok Darjeeling Sikkim in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Arrive in Chandigarh
    30 minutes (7.9 miles) from Chandigarh International Airport

    Upon arrival at Chandigarh, check-in to the hotel and relax for a bit. Then, start exploring the city with a visit to the Rock Garden, a sculpture garden built entirely from industrial and home waste. Afterward, head to the Sukhna Lake for a pleasant evening walk or boating.

  2. Day 2: Gangtok
    12 hours (517 km) from Chandigarh via NH27

    Travel to Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim, and explore the city's beauty. Visit the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, which houses an extensive collection of artifacts and rare books on Buddhism and Tibet. Take a stroll through the colorful MG Road, laced with shops and restaurants. You can also visit the Enchey Monastery, a 200-year-old religious institution.

  3. Day 3: Tsomgo Lake and Baba Mandir
    2 hours (35 km) from Gangtok

    Take a day trip to visit the famous Tsomgo Lake, a glacial lake located at an altitude of 12,400 feet above sea level. While there, don't miss the opportunity to seek blessings at Baba Mandir, a temple dedicated to Baba Harbhajan Singh, an Indian Army soldier who died near the Nathula Pass.

  4. Day 4: Darjeeling
    4 hours (98 km) from Gangtok

    Travel to Darjeeling, known as the Queen of Hills. Wake up early to catch the sunrise from Tiger Hill, which offers a panoramic view of Kanchenjunga and the Himalayan range. Afterward, take a ride on the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, also known as the toy train. Visit the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park and the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute.

  5. Day 5: Tea Garden and Monastery

    Visit the Happy Valley Tea Estate, one of the oldest tea estates in Darjeeling. Take a guided tour of the tea factory and learn about the tea-making process. Then head to the Ghum Monastery, one of the largest monasteries in Darjeeling. It houses a 15-feet high statue of Maitreya Buddha and several rare Buddhist scriptures.

  6. Day 6: Pelling
    4 hours (72 km) from Darjeeling

    Travel to Pelling, a serene town in Sikkim. Visit the Pemayangtse Monastery, one of the oldest monasteries in Sikkim and home to several ancient artifacts and religious idols. Take a stroll in the Rabdentse Ruins, the 17th-century capital of the former kingdom of Sikkim. Don't miss the Khecheopalri Lake, a sacred lake surrounded by forests and hills.

  7. Day 7: Departure
    2 hours (73 km) from Pelling to Bagdogra Airport

    Depart from Pelling to Bagdogra Airport to catch your flight back home.
