Begin your adventure with a trek to Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanad at 2,100 metres above sea level. The trek to the top takes about 3-4 hours and is moderately difficult. Once you reach the summit, you will be treated to a breathtaking view of the entire district. The heart-shaped Chembra Lake on the way to the peak adds to the charm of the trek. Make sure to carry enough water and snacks for the trek. The trekking trail to Chembra Peak is open from 7 am to 2 pm every day except during the monsoon season.
Head to Kuruva Island, a protected river delta formed by the Kabini River, for a day of bamboo rafting and hiking. The island is uninhabited and covered with dense forests that are home to various species of birds and butterflies. You can take a bamboo raft ride on the river and enjoy the serene surroundings. The rafting experience lasts for about 2 hours. You can also explore the island on foot by taking a guided trek through the forest. Kuruva Island is open from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm every day.
If you have an extra day, you can explore the Edakkal Caves, an ancient site with rock carvings, or take a jeep safari to the Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary to spot elephants, tigers, and other wildlife. You can also try zip-lining and other adventure activities at the Soochipara Waterfalls. To maximize your fun, make sure to carry comfortable trekking shoes, sunscreen, and insect repellent. It is also recommended to book the trekking and rafting activities in advance.
