Start your trip in the charming capital of Malta, Valletta. Explore the beautiful and historic buildings such as the Grand Master's Palace, St. John's Co-Cathedral, and the Upper Barrakka Gardens. Walk through the bustling streets and enjoy the Malta experience at its fullest.
On day two, head to the charming beach town of Mellieha where you can relax on the sandy beach and soak up the sun. Afterwards, take a ferry to Comino Island, which is an untouched paradise with crystal-clear waters and a stunning landscape. Swim in the Blue Lagoon and take breathtaking pictures to take back home.
Complete your Maltese adventure by visiting the ancient city of Mdina, also known as the Silent City. Wander through the narrow streets and alleyways of this fortified town and visit the medieval buildings, such as St. Paul's Cathedral and the Mdina Dungeons. You can then head to Rabat, which is a small town with fascinating historical sites.
To get around Malta, you can use public transportation such as buses, ferries and taxis. Buses are cheap and widely available, ferries run between the islands and taxis can be hailed on the street. However, driving a rental car is best for convenience, but please note that renting a car might be expensive, and driving can take some getting used to given Malta's relatively compact sizes and dense inner-city layout. Total transportation costs for three days can vary between €20-€90, depending on usage.
If you have more time, explore other parts of the island such as Gozo, Ghar Dalam Cave, and Hagar Qim Temples. However, if you have less time, skip Mellieha beach and Comino Island, and spend a full day in Valletta visiting all the landmarks in-depth. Malta is a safe destination, so make sure to bring comfy shoes, sunscreen and sufficient water walking. Additionally, do not try to cram too much and take the time to enjoy your experience and all the sites.
There is one main airport in Malta, the Malta International Airport (MLA), located in the town of Luqa, about 8 km from Valletta. It's a modern airport with plenty of international flights and offers efficient connections getting in and out of Malta. A licensed taxi ride from the airport to Valletta will cost approximately €15-25 and takes around 12-15 minutes, depending on traffic. Alternatively, a bus, X4, is also available and costs €1.50, which takes around 30 minutes.
