Anjanadri Hill 2-Day Itinerary - June 2023

  1. Day 1: Anjanadri Hill Sunrise Trek
    15 minutes (3.5 km) from Hampi

    Morning: Rise early for a sunrise trek up Anjanadri Hill, believed to be the birthplace of Lord Hanuman. The trek is moderately difficult, but the breathtaking views of the sunrise over the Tungabhadra River are worth the effort. Don't forget to bring water and wear comfortable shoes.
    Afternoon: After the trek, head to the nearby Pampa Sarovar for a refreshing dip in the holy waters. Enjoy a packed lunch with a scenic view of the lake.
    Evening: Visit the nearby Anjeyanadri temple and witness the evening aarti. This temple is believed to be over 1500 years old and is dedicated to Lord Hanuman's mother, Anjana. Be sure to dress appropriately and respect the temple customs.

  2. Day 2: Virupaksha Temple and Monolithic Bull
    20 minutes (4.3 km) from Anjanadri Hill

    Morning: Start your day at the iconic Virupaksha Temple, the main center of pilgrimage at Hampi. This temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, has been in continuous use since its construction in the 7th century. Marvel at the intricate carvings and sculptures that adorn the temple walls and towers.
    Afternoon: Walk to the nearby Monolithic Bull, also known as the Nandi Statue. This statue, carved out of a single granite boulder, is over 15 feet tall and 27 feet long. It is believed to be one of the largest monolithic statues in the world.
    Evening: End your day with a stroll along the Tungabhadra River and watch the sunset over the boulder-strewn landscape. Take a moment to reflect on the rich history and culture of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Recommendations

Don't miss the Vittala Temple Complex, home to the famous Stone Chariot and musical pillars. You may also want to visit the Hampi Bazaar to shop for local handicrafts and souvenirs.
