3-Day Wayanad Cultural Immersion Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Edakkal Caves
    1 hour (26 miles) from Kalpetta

    In the morning, visit the Edakkal Caves, which are natural caves with ancient petroglyphs dating back to 6000 BCE. The hike to the caves takes about 45 minutes and offers beautiful views of the surrounding landscape. For lunch, try the local Wayanadan cuisine at the nearby restaurant called Jubilee. In the afternoon, visit the nearby Wayanad Heritage Museum to learn about the history and culture of the area. In the evening, take a stroll through Kalpetta town to experience the local markets and street food scene.

  2. Day 2: Thirunelli Temple
    1 hour 20 minutes (35 miles) from Kalpetta

    In the morning, visit the Thirunelli Temple, an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu situated amidst the Brahmagiri hills. The temple is known for its beautiful architecture and serene surroundings. For lunch, try out the traditional Kerala Sadhya at the nearby restaurant called Thirunelli Restaurant. In the afternoon, visit the nearby Pakshipathalam Bird Sanctuary to witness a variety of rare birds.     1 hour 30 minutes (35 miles) from Kalpetta

    In the morning, visit the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary, a protected area home to a variety of wildlife such as elephants, tigers, leopards, and deer. You can take a guided safari tour of the sanctuary to witness these animals in their natural habitat. For lunch, try out the local Kerala biryani at the nearby restaurant called Hotel Hill Fort. In the afternoon, visit the nearby Chethalayam Falls, a beautiful waterfall surrounded by lush greenery. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Kalaripayattu martial arts performance at the CVN Kalari Center.

Recommendations

If you have time, we recommend visiting the Kuruva Island, a serene and picturesque island situated in the middle of the Kabini River. You can also visit the nearby Pookode Lake, a freshwater lake surrounded by forests and hills.
