Kedarnath 5-Day Family Friendly Itinerary in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Kedarnath Temple
    5 minutes (0.4 miles) from Kedarnath Helipad

    Visit the Kedarnath Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. The temple is located at an altitude of 3,583 meters and is surrounded by snow-capped mountains. The morning aarti at the temple is a must-see.

  2. Day 2: Vasuki Tal
    2 hours 30 minutes (9.6 miles) from Kedarnath Temple

    Take a trek to Vasuki Tal, a high altitude lake at an elevation of 4,135 meters. The trek is challenging but the stunning views of the Himalayas make it worth it. Carry a picnic lunch and enjoy it by the lake.

  3. Day 3: Bhairav Nath Temple and Gandhi Sarovar
    1 hour 30 minutes (6.1 miles) from Vasuki Tal

    Visit the Bhairav Nath Temple, a small temple dedicated to Lord Bhairav. Then, head to Gandhi Sarovar, a glacier-fed lake named after Mahatma Gandhi. Enjoy the scenic beauty of the surrounding mountains and the calmness of the lake.

  4. Day 4: Sonprayag
    2 hours (8.9 miles) from Bhairav Nath Temple

    Drive to Sonprayag, a scenic spot where the rivers Basuki and Mandakini meet. Take a dip in the holy waters of the Mandakini river and enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding mountains.

  5. Day 5: Gaurikund
    30 minutes (9.4 miles) from Sonprayag

    Visit Gaurikund, a small town located at an altitude of 1,982 meters. It is believed that Goddess Parvati meditated here before marrying Lord Shiva. Take a dip in the hot springs and enjoy the scenic views of the surrounding mountains.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, you can visit Triyuginarayan Temple, located 26 km from Kedarnath. It is believed to be the place where Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati got married. You can also visit the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary, home to a variety of flora and fauna.

Consider taking a helicopter ride from Phata to Kedarnath to save time and energy. You can also go on a camping trip to enjoy the stunning views of the Himalayas.
