Family-Friendly 2-Day Itinerary for Amarkantak in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Narmada Udgam and Mai Ki Bagiya
    10 minutes (2.8 km) from Amarkantak Bus Stand

    Morning: Start your day by visiting the Narmada Udgam which is the origin of the sacred river Narmada. It's a beautiful spot where you can witness the water gushing out from the ground and forming a pond. After spending some time there, head towards Mai Ki Bagiya which is a garden dedicated to Goddess Parvati, the consort of Lord Shiva. It's a serene place with lush greenery and a small pond.

    Afternoon: Have a delightful lunch at the nearby cafes and restaurants. Post-lunch, visit the Kapildhara Waterfalls which is about 10 km from Mai Ki Bagiya. The waterfall has a height of about 100 feet and is surrounded by hills and forests. It's a wonderful place for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts.

    Evening: End your day by visiting the Narmada Kund Temple which is about 1.5 km from the Kapildhara Waterfalls. It's a beautiful temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and the Narmada river. You can witness the aarti ceremony during the evening which is a divine experience.

  2. Day 2: Sonmuda and Ancient Temples
    1 hour 15 minutes (40 km) from Amarkantak Bus Stand

    Morning: Start your day early and head towards Sonmuda which is a spectacular spot located at an altitude of 3000 feet. It's about 40 km from Amarkantak and takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes to reach there. You can enjoy the panoramic view of the surrounding hills and valleys from the viewpoint. You can also witness the sunrise from there which is a mesmerizing experience.

    Afternoon: Have a quick lunch and then visit the ancient temples situated in and around Amarkantak. You can visit the Narmada Temple, the Shri Yantra Temple, and the Kalachuri Temple. All these temples have a significant religious and historical importance and are worth a visit.

    Evening: End your day by visiting the Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary which is about 14 km from Amarkantak. It's a wildlife sanctuary and has a diverse flora and fauna. You can also witness the sunset from there which is a breathtaking sight.

If you have more time, you can also visit the Achanakmar Wildlife Sanctuary which is about 100 km from Amarkantak. You can also go for a trek in the nearby hills and forests. If you're looking for a side trip, you can visit Pachmarhi which is a hill station located about 150 km from Amarkantak and has many tourist attractions.
