Exploring Surat in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Surat Castle
    15 minutes (2.5 km) from Surat Airport

    In the morning, visit the Surat Castle, a magnificent fort built in the 16th century by the Portuguese. Explore the rich history and architecture of the castle and see the panoramic view of the city from the top. In the afternoon, head to the nearby Sardar Patel Museum, which showcases the cultural heritage of Gujarat. In the evening, take a stroll in the beautiful gardens of the castle.

  2. Day 2: Ambika Niketan Temple

    In the morning, visit the Ambika Niketan Temple, dedicated to the Hindu goddess Ambika. The temple complex features beautifully carved pillars and a stunning idol of the goddess. In the afternoon, head to the Dumas Beach, one of the most popular beaches in Surat, for a relaxing swim and some delicious street food. In the evening, visit the Dutch Cemetery, a serene and peaceful place with beautiful tombs and old trees.

  3. Day 3: Bardoli Satyagraha Memorial
    40 minutes (15 km) from Ambika Niketan Temple

    In the morning, visit the Bardoli Satyagraha Memorial, a tribute to one of the most successful non-violent protests led by Mahatma Gandhi in 1928. The memorial has a museum that showcases the history of the movement and its impact on India's struggle for independence. In the afternoon, head to the VR Surat Mall for some shopping and entertainment. In the evening, visit the Tapi Riverfront, a beautiful promenade that offers stunning views of the river and the city skyline.

  4. Day 4: Old Fort
    30 minutes (6.5 km) from Bardoli Satyagraha Memorial

    In the morning, visit the Old Fort, a historic fort built by Sultan Mahmood-III in 1468. The fort has a beautiful mosque, palace and a stunning garden. In the afternoon, head to the Jagdishchandra Bose Aquarium, which houses a variety of aquatic animals and plants. In the evening, visit the ISKCON Temple, a beautiful and serene temple dedicated to Lord Krishna.

If you have time, visit the Chintamani Jain Temple, a stunning temple dedicated to Lord Mahavir, and the Science Centre, a fascinating place for kids and adults alike. For a side trip, head to the iconic hill station of Saputara, located about 160 km from Surat. To maximize your fun, try the local street food, especially the famous Surat Sweets. You can also take a day trip to the nearby city of Vadodara to explore the Laxmi Vilas Palace and other historic sites.
