5-day Adventure Itinerary in Dharamshala in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Triund Trek
    30 minutes (9 km) from Mcleodganj

    In the morning, head to Triund, a popular trekking spot with stunning views of the Dhauladhar range. The trek to Triund is 9km long and takes around 4-5 hours. Enjoy a packed lunch with breathtaking views at the top. In the afternoon, trek back down to Mcleodganj and explore the local markets. In the evening, relax at a local cafe and try some local dishes.

  2. Day 2: Bhagsu Waterfall and Temple
    15 minutes (3 km) from Mcleodganj

    Begin your day with an easy hike to Bhagsu Waterfall, a serene spot surrounded by lush greenery. After that, visit the Bhagsu Temple, an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. You can witness the morning prayer ceremony which is a beautiful sight. Have lunch at a local restaurant and then explore the Tibetan Museum. In the evening, head to the Sunset Point in Naddi village to witness the breathtaking sunset.

  3. Day 3: Kangra Valley and Masroor Rock Cut Temple
    2 hours (44 km) from Mcleodganj

    Start your day early and drive to Kangra Valley, one of the most picturesque valleys in Himachal Pradesh. Visit the Masroor Rock Cut Temple, a complex of 15 monolithic rock-cut temples that date back to the 8th century. Enjoy a packed lunch and then visit the Kangra Fort, a historic fort built by the Katoch dynasty. In the evening, return back to Mcleodganj and visit the Dalai Lama Temple.

  4. Day 4: Paragliding and Bir Billing
    2 hours 30 minutes (67 km) from Mcleodganj

    Today, experience the thrill of paragliding in Bir Billing, one of the best paragliding sites in the world. Soar above the mountains and enjoy amazing views of the valley. After that, have lunch at a local restaurant and explore the local streets of Bir. In the evening, return to Mcleodganj and relax at a local cafe.

  5. Day 5: Indrahar Pass Trek
    1 hour 30 minutes (15 km) from Mcleodganj

    Today, embark on a challenging trek to Indrahar Pass. The trek is 14 km long and takes around 7-8 hours. The trail offers stunning views of the Dhauladhar range and the Manimahesh Kailash peak. Enjoy a packed lunch at the top and then trek back down to Mcleodganj. In the evening, celebrate your last night in Dharamshala by attending a cultural show at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts.

Recommendations

If you have an extra day, consider visiting the Chamunda Devi Temple or the Masrur Temples. You can also take a day trip to the town of Palampur, known for its tea gardens and scenic beauty. To maximize your fun, try some local dishes like momos, thenthuk and butter tea. Don't forget to carry comfortable shoes, warm clothes and rain gear.
