3-Day Adventure Itinerary for Tuticorin in December 2023

  1. Day 1: Thiruchendur Murugan Temple

    In the morning, we will drive to the Thiruchendur Murugan Temple, one of the six abodes of Lord Murugan. We will witness the beautiful architecture and intricate carvings on the temple walls. In the afternoon, we will explore the Panchalankurichi Fort, a historical monument that played a significant role during the Indian Independence Movement. In the evening, we will head to the Manapad Beach to relax and watch the breathtaking sunset.

  2. Day 2: Koonthankulam Bird Sanctuary
    1 hour 9 minutes (45.8 km) from Thiruchendur Murugan Temple

    We will start our day early at the Koonthankulam Bird Sanctuary, a paradise for birdwatchers. We will witness thousands of migratory birds such as flamingos, pelicans, and storks. In the afternoon, we will head to the Kalakkad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve, a protected area where we can spot tigers, elephants, and other animals. In the evening, we will visit the Our Lady of Snows Basilica, a beautiful church with stunning architecture.

  3. Day 3: Tuticorin Port
    1 hour 30 minutes (67.3 km) from Koonthankulam Bird Sanctuary

    In the morning, we will head to the Tuticorin Port, one of the major ports in India. We will take a boat ride to the nearby islands, where we can indulge in water sports such as snorkelling and scuba diving. In the afternoon, we will visit the Roche Park, a serene park with manicured lawns and a beautiful lake. In the evening, we will head back to Tuticorin and visit the Kattabomman Memorial Fort, a historical monument that houses the artefacts of Veerapandiya Kattabomman, a brave Indian freedom fighter.

Recommendations

If you have time, you can also consider visiting the Vattakottai Fort, a seaside fort with a panoramic view of the sea. You can also take a day trip to the Kanyakumari, the southernmost tip of India, famous for its beautiful sunrise and sunset views.
