3-Day Adventure Itinerary in Wayanad in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Soochipara Falls
    30 minutes (13.7 miles) from Kalpetta

    In the morning, head to Soochipara Falls which is also known as Sentinel Rock Waterfalls. It is a three-tiered waterfall cascading from a height of 200 meters. You can trek through the dense forest and rocky terrain to reach the falls. Take a refreshing dip in the pool formed by the waterfall. In the afternoon, visit the Edakkal Caves, natural caves formed by huge boulders resting on each other. The caves have ancient carvings and paintings dating back to 6,000 BCE. In the evening, enjoy a bonfire at the Banasura Hill Resort.

  2. Day 2: Chembra Peak
    1 hour 10 minutes (22.4 miles) from Kalpetta

    In the morning, embark on a trek to the Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanad at an elevation of 2,100 meters. The trek takes around 4 hours and is a moderately difficult one. Once you reach the top, you will be able to see a heart-shaped lake. In the afternoon, visit the Pookode Lake, a freshwater lake surrounded by forests and hills. You can go boating, fishing or just relax by the lake. In the evening, visit the Kuruva Island, a group of islands located in the river Kabini. The islands are uninhabited and are home to various species of flora and fauna.

  3. Day 3: Banasura Sagar Dam
    1 hour 40 minutes (38.8 miles) from Kalpetta

    In the morning, head to the Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earthen dam in India. The dam is surrounded by the Banasura hills and offers panoramic views of the surroundings. You can go boating or trek to the nearby hills. In the afternoon, visit the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, home to various species of animals like elephants, tigers, and leopards. You can go on a jungle safari or trek through the sanctuary. In the evening, visit the Thirunelli Temple, a 3000-year-old temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu nestled amidst the Brahmagiri hills.

Other local attractions you can consider visiting are the Meenmutty Falls, the Neelimala View Point, and the Lakkidi View Point. You can also take a day trip to the nearby town of Sulthan Bathery which has a Jain temple and an old fort. To maximize your fun, you can try bamboo rafting in the Kuruva Islands or zip-lining at the Banasura Hill Resort. Make sure to try the local cuisine which includes dishes like bamboo rice, puttu, and kadala curry.
