Two Days of City Experiences in Mumbai

  1. Day 1: Gateway of India
20 minutes (6.4 km) from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus

The Gateway of India is a colossal structure standing tall at the Apollo Bunder waterfront in South Mumbai. Built in 1924 to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary, it has become a prominent landmark of the city. In the morning, take a boat ride to Elephanta Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to see the magnificent rock-cut temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. In the afternoon, head to Marine Drive, a sweeping boulevard along the Arabian Sea, where you can take a leisurely walk and enjoy the sea view. In the evening, visit the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the busiest train stations in India. Its Victorian Gothic architecture, stained glass windows, and intricate carvings are a visual treat.

  2. Day 2: Colaba Causeway
15 minutes (3.8 km) from Gateway of India

Colaba Causeway is a bustling street market in South Mumbai. It's a great place to shop for handicrafts, jewelry, clothes, and antiques. In the morning, explore the market and enjoy some street food like vada pav or bhel puri. In the afternoon, visit the iconic Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, an architectural masterpiece built in 1903. You can take a guided tour of the hotel and learn about its history. In the evening, head to the Worli Sea Face, a popular hangout spot for locals. Enjoy the sea breeze and watch the sunset over the Arabian Sea.

Recommendations

For a side trip, take a ferry to the nearby Elephanta Island to see the Elephanta Caves. You can also take a day trip to the hill station of Matheran or the ancient city of Ajanta and Ellora Caves.
