4-Day Wayanad Itinerary in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Pookode Lake
    20 minutes (8.6 km) from Kalpetta

    Start your day at the serene Pookode Lake, a popular tourist attraction in Wayanad. Enjoy a morning boat ride and spot some exotic birds. Afterward, take a stroll around the lake while enjoying the lush greenery. For lunch, head to the nearby restaurants that serve delicious South Indian cuisine. In the afternoon, take a short 15-minute drive to the Banasura Sagar Dam. Take a speed boat ride and witness the scenic view of the surrounding mountains. In the evening, visit the nearby Meenmutty Waterfalls, a 2-hour trek from the parking spot. The trek is worth it once you witness the spectacular waterfall.

  2. Day 2: Edakkal Caves
    45 minutes (20.9 km) from Kalpetta

    Explore the ancient Edakkal Caves which is two and a half hours trek from the base. The trek is not easy, but the view from the caves is worth it.   3. Day 3: Thirunelli Temple
    1 hour 30 minutes (45.2 km) from Kalpetta

    Start your day by visiting the Thirunelli Temple, a 3000-year-old temple located in a picturesque valley. The temple is surrounded by lush green mountains and is a perfect example of traditional Kerala architecture. Afterward, head to the nearby Pakshipathalam Bird Sanctuary for a 1-hour trek. Take a jeep safari and explore the sanctuary. Afterward, head to the nearby Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary, a 50-minute drive from the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary. Take another jeep safari and explore the sanctuary, which is home to various species of animals and birds. For lunch, head to the nearby town and try the local delicacies.
