3-Day Itinerary for Delhi in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Red Fort
    15 minutes (4.5 km) from Indira Gandhi International Airport

    The Red Fort is a historic fortification and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was the main residence of the emperors of the Mughal dynasty for nearly 200 years. In the morning, explore the various palaces and pavilions inside the fort. In the afternoon, catch the light-and-sound show that narrates the history of the Mughal Empire. In the evening, head to the lively Chandni Chowk market for some shopping and street food.

  2. Day 2: Akshardham Temple
    40 minutes (17 km) from Red Fort

    Akshardham is a Hindu temple and spiritual-cultural campus. It features a magnificent temple, an IMAX theatre, a musical fountain and a boat ride. The temple showcases India's ancient architecture, traditions and spirituality. Spend the morning admiring the intricate carvings and sculptures of the temple. In the afternoon, watch the fascinating movie on Swaminarayan's life and teachings at the IMAX theatre. In the evening, enjoy the spectacular musical fountain show that depicts the circle of life.

  3. Day 3: Lotus Temple
    30 minutes (12.5 km) from Akshardham Temple

    The Lotus Temple is a Bahá'í House of Worship and a prominent attraction of Delhi. It is shaped like a lotus flower and is made of marble, cement, dolomite and sand. The temple has won numerous architectural awards and is known for its serene ambience. Spend the morning meditating, reading or simply soaking in the peaceful atmosphere of the temple. In the afternoon, visit the nearby Kalkaji Temple or the ISKCON Temple. In the evening, head to the Hauz Khas Village for some drinks and nightlife.

Recommendations

If you have time, visit the Qutub Minar, Humayun's Tomb, India Gate, Jama Masjid, National Museum or the National Gallery of Modern Art. You can also take a day trip to Agra to see the Taj Mahal. For foodies, try the famous butter chicken, chaat, chole bhature, kebabs, biryani and lassi. To avoid the heat, plan your outdoor activities early in the morning or after sunset.
