5-Day Itinerary for Coorg, Wayanad, Ooty, and Kannur in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Coorg
    3 hours (105 km) from Kannur
    Estimated Time of Arrival: 10:00 AM

    Morning: Visit the Namdroling Monastery, also known as the Golden Temple, to witness the beautiful Tibetan architecture and prayer ceremonies.

    Afternoon: Head to Abbey Falls to enjoy the view of the waterfall and the surrounding greenery. Take a walk on the hanging bridge to get a panoramic view of the falls.

    Evening: Explore the Raja's Seat, a beautiful garden surrounded by hills and valleys. The sunset view from here is breathtaking.

    Note: Namdroling Monastery is closed on Sundays.

  2. Day 2: Wayanad
    4 hours (123 km) from Coorg
    Estimated Time of Arrival: 11:00 AM

    Morning: Visit the Edakkal Caves to see ancient rock etchings and learn about their historical significance.

    Afternoon: Head to the Pookode Lake for a serene boat ride and a walk around the beautiful lake.

    Evening: Explore the Banasura Sagar Dam, the second-largest earthen dam in Asia. Enjoy a scenic view of the lake and hills from the top.

    Note: Edakkal Caves are closed on Mondays.

  3. Day 3: Ooty
    4 hours (126 km) from Wayanad

    Morning: Take the Nilgiri Mountain Railway from Ooty to Coonoor for a scenic train ride through the mountains and tea plantations.

    Afternoon: Visit the Sim's Park, a botanical garden with many exotic plant species.

    Evening: Explore the Ooty Lake and enjoy a boat ride. The lake also has a small amusement park with a mini train and a toy car ride.

    Note: Nilgiri Mountain Railway does not operate on Mondays.

  4. Day 4: Kannur

    Morning: Visit the St. Angelo Fort, a beautiful Portuguese fort on the coast of the Arabian Sea.

    Afternoon: Head to the Muzhappilangad Drive-in Beach for a unique experience of driving on the beach.

    Evening: Explore the Arakkal Museum, a museum dedicated to the only Muslim dynasty in Kerala.

    Note: St. Angelo Fort is closed on Fridays.

  5. Day 5: Wayanad
    3.5 hours (130 km) from Kannur

    Morning: Visit the Thirunelli Temple, an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temple is surrounded by hills and a beautiful stream.

    Evening: Explore the Soochipara Falls, a three-tiered waterfall with a natural pool for swimming.

Recommendations

If you have more time, consider visiting the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, the Iruppu Falls in Coorg, the Ooty Botanical Gardens, and the Payyambalam Beach in Kannur. If you are interested in local culture, attend a Theyyam performance in Kannur.
