3-Day Itinerary for Puri in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Jagannath Temple
    10 minutes (2.5 km) from Puri Beach

    In the morning, visit the famous Jagannath Temple. This holy temple is dedicated to Lord Jagannath, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. You can also see the idols of Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra here. The temple is known for its annual Rath Yatra where the deities are taken out on a chariot procession. Afternoon can be spent exploring the intricate carvings of the temple and enjoying the local street food. In the evening, take a stroll on the beach and witness the beautiful sunset.

  2. Day 2: Chilika Lake
    1 hour 30 minutes (50 km) from Jagannath Temple

    Take a day trip to the largest coastal lagoon in India, Chilika Lake. It is home to a variety of migratory birds, dolphins, and the famous Irrawaddy dolphins. Take a boat ride to see the dolphins and the beautiful scenery of the lake. You can also visit the Kalijai Temple, located on an island in the lake. In the afternoon, enjoy some fresh seafood at the local dhabas. Return to Puri in the evening.

  3. Day 3: Konark Sun Temple
    40 minutes (35 km) from Jagannath Temple

    In the morning, visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Konark Sun Temple. The temple is famous for its magnificent architecture and intricate carvings. It is dedicated to the Sun God and is designed in the shape of a chariot. Afternoon can be spent exploring the nearby Chandrabhaga Beach, known for its serene surroundings and clean waters. Return to Puri in the evening for some local shopping and trying out the delicious street food.
